Effectively treating sport injuries
Our athletic rehabilitation clinic helps athletes reduce physical pain and regain their physical capabilities after an injury. We bring together the strengths of several complementary medical specialties to help treat sports-related injuries. By combining curative treatments from sports medicine with active rehabilitation techniques, athletes are able to recover quickly and get back on track.
Inovo Medical’s sports medicine clinic stands out because of its active rehabilitation approach. We use modern chiropractic and physiotherapy techniques that focus on restoring function by using the patient’s own physical capabilities.
We define ourselves as an evidence-based institution. Our team has specific intervention protocols for each type of injury. These protocols are assessed and updated regularly according to the latest medical advances. These advances are the basis on which our treatments are delivered, all while being adapted to the needs of each patient. At Inovo Medical, new technologies, like Alter-G anti-gravity treadmill, and 3D optical motion analysis are incorporated into our athletic rehabilitation assessments and treatment plans.
At Inovo Medical, we treat the person as a whole rather than a specific disorder; for example, a knee injury might also affect the foot, hip, and spine. Therapy can help treat a wide range of problems, including:
- Ankle sprain
- Groin pull
- Hamstring strain
- Shin splints
- Knee injury: ACL tear
- Knee injury
- Tennis elbow
After conducting an overall posture analysis of your joint and muscle mechanics, our experts work as a team to develop the most effective combination of treatments. The intervention may include chiropractic adjustments, exercises for back pain relief, sports medicine, a custom foot orthotics, as well as the use of an anti-gravity treadmill. Furthermore, our expertise in sports regenerative medicine enables us to deliver a broad range of innovative curative and aesthetic treatments.
1. POSTURE ANALYSIS
Before receiving treatment, an assessment is made, which includes a 3-d analysis* of your joint and muscle mechanics. A painful, defective mechanical part engenders very complex impacts on the rest of the body. Indeed, pain often results in a cascade of consequences that can lead to other physiological problems. That’s why it is important to have a reliable diagnosis in the case of sports and joint injuries. In achieving that goal, our team assesses posture, flexibility, balance, gait, running, and the feet. Our cutting-edge electronic imaging systems yield a complete 3-D examination of the body and each joint segment in motion.
2. SPORTS MEDICINE INTERVENTION PROTOCOL
Once a diagnosis has been made, our team adapts a multidisciplinary intervention protocol involving curative and active rehabilitation treatments to the patient’s specific needs.
At our athletic rehabilitation clinic, clients have access to:
3. THE ANTI-GRAVITY TREADMILL
Meet ALTER-G®, our newest tech beast
Give yourself the opportunity for a smooth progression back to full recovery. Alter-G’s patented Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology, developed at NASA, applies a comfortable and uniform lifting force to your body. Integrated into a high-tech treadmill, Alter-G’s technology offers precise body weight reduction. The Alter-G decreases your weight by 1% increments and can reduce up to 80% of your total weight while you are on the treadmill. Its unique unweighting technology reduces the impact of walking or running while your body goes through the normal healing process, allowing you to resume training following surgery or with an acute lower body injury.
The world’s best athletes and teams use the Alter-G to reduce the frequency of injuries, build fitness, and train and recover more quickly. The Alter-G has been tested and utilized by top professional athletes and teams, including America’s elite distance runners, such as Dathan Ritzenhein and Shannon Rowbury, and top professional and Olympic athletes, and dozens of pro teams worldwide, including the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Lakers and Manchester United.
4. ONLINE PHYSIOTHERAPY VIDEO CLIPS
At Inovo Medical, we help our patients to achieve an optimal level of healing
That’s why we also offer access to video clips of physiotherapy protocols. They are offered at no charge to provide our patients with the fundamentals of rehabilitation. Their use can be personalized, providing an ideal solution for people with low incomes or who prefer to stay at home.

Kurt has spent most of his career working with athletes. Using sports medicine and chronic pain management techniques, he takes an active, hands-on approach to help his patients recover. Kurt likes to use a mix of Soft Tissue Release, Myofascial Release, Muscle Energy Technique, Joint Mobilizations as well as Acupuncture to help with pain relief. However, he puts a strong focus on using an exercise-based protocol to help patients deal with their issues on a long term basis.
For the past 3 years, Kurt has been working with some of Canada’s Paralympic. This experience has enabled him to learn about the type of patients who have chronic conditions but are also looking to compete at a high athletic level. He has also taken a keen interest in chronic and inflammatory shoulder problems and has taken several courses to ensure his patients are getting the most up to date treatment and advice.
Prior to becoming a physiotherapist, Kurt played junior hockey. He graduated with a degree in human kinetics from the university of Guelph in 2007. He then worked as a kinesiologist and rehabilitation specialist for a 4 years before returning to school to complete a master’s in physiotherapy at the Caledonian University in Glasgow, Scotland. During his stay overseas, he also interned as a physiotherapist for one of UK’s professional soccer teams.
