P-Shot

P-SHOT FOR ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

What is the P-Shot?

The P-Shot is an experimental procedure designed to improve men’s sexual performance. This procedure treats erectile dysfunction in men, especially when the condition is due to an enlarged prostate, prostate cancer, the after-effects of surgery, drug side effects and other diseases such as diabetes.

The Benefits of the Treatment

Although each man’s experience varies, most men report these benefits following the procedure and post-treatment protocol:

  • Increased firmness of erection
  • Improved sexual capabilities
  • Increased sexual stamina
  • Increased blood flow and circulation
  • Better sensation and pleasure

Peyronie’s Disease

Peyronie’s disease is where plaques (segments of flat scar tissue) form under the skin of the penis. These plaques can cause the penis to bend or become indented during erections. The plaquettes can often be felt through the skin, and can also be painful.

If you happen to have this problem, the injection will be done under ultrasonic guidance to inject right at the site of the plaque. Other clinics might not do so. In combination with the use of a penile pump, you will most likely not need surgery and get better results. Why? Because most operations are invasive and it will take away 1-2 cms in length of your actual penis to do the reconstruction.

Please note that treating Peyronie’s disease may require 3 to 6 P-Shot treatments for best outcomes.

Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (impotence) is the inability to get and keep an erection firm enough for sex.

Having erection trouble from time to time isn’t necessarily a cause for concern. If erectile dysfunction is an ongoing issue, however, it can cause stress, affect your self-confidence and contribute to relationship problems. Problems getting or keeping an erection also can be a sign of an underlying health condition that needs treatment and a risk factor for heart disease down the road.

If you’re concerned about erectile dysfunction, you may also want to talk to your doctor and see a urologist— even if you’re embarrassed. Sometimes, treating an underlying condition is enough to reverse erectile dysfunction. In other cases, you may need medications or other direct treatments. If you haven’t done this yet, don’t worry. We will screen you for many possible conditions requiring different types of care.

Please note that a questionnaire will be required to be filled out to determine if you are a candidate.

How is the P-Shot Procedure Done?

First, we apply a numbing cream to the penis and take a blood sample from the patient’s arm. Then, using a proprietary technique, we extract the growth factors from the blood. This concentrate is called platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The PRP is then injected into the corpus cavernosum, an area of the penis that is most important for the sexual response. Local anesthetic allows for little to no discomfort during the procedure.

The procedure takes approximately 5 minutes, but it may take up to 60 minutes to complete the consultation, go through the consent form, and harvest the PRP. If we do the procedure under ultrasonic guidance (for Peyronie’s disease for instance), the procedure may last up to 25 minutes.

Duration of Expected Results

Results can last indefinitely, but some people may require additional interventions.

Platelet-rich plasma contains many growth and healing factors. PRP has regenerative abilities and can stimulate healing and rejuvenation.

The resulting benefits typically include tissue growth that in turn stimulates the growth of new blood vessels. Results also include improved blood circulation within the penis, stronger erections, increased sensation and pleasure, and enhanced sexual performance.

What are The Side-Effects?

The most common ones include:

  • Temporary skin reactions such as redness
  • Pain/tenderness
  • Firmness
  • Swelling
  • Lumps/bumps
  • Bruising

Frequently Asked Questions

How much growth can I expect?

Some patients achieve a 20% growth in length and girth. These results require the use of the penile pump and it is never guarantee as studies have not demonstrated this benefit.

Where is the injection done?

Directly into the corpus cavernosum with a very small needle, and into the head of the penis—in a way almost exactly as done with those who use injections for erectile dysfunction.

What are the risks of scarring?

There is about a 10% incidence of scar tissue formation among men who inject 3 to 5 times a week over many years for treatment of erectile dysfunction. That is with multiple injections during many years. With this procedure, there is only 1 set of injections, so the odds of scar tissue formation is minimal. So far, there hasn’t been any reports of fibrosis or scar tissue formation.

Does the procedure hurt?

We use a lidocaine cream (a strong version of what you might find in a spray to kill the pain of sunburn). The pain is about the same as a normal shot to the buttocks, perhaps less.
