Chronic Pain Management

At Inovo Medical, we are aware that the pain is real. We propose concrete solutions aimed at relieving your pain and improving your quality of life.

chronic pain in Canada

Did you know that 20% to 25% of Canadians suffer from chronic pain? By making even simple movements impossible, chronic pain can quickly take control of a person’s life, affecting many different aspects such as work, social life, recreational activities, and sleep. While these changes are usually thought to be consequences of the pain, they may also produce other disabilities. Indeed, pain often results in a cascade of effects on the rest of the body that can lead to other physiological problems. That’s why our experts treat the various sources of pain and identify how they influence body mechanics. Since the underlying causes of chronic pain are unclear and often cannot be accounted for, people living with the condition feel misunderstood, anxious, and isolated. Moreover, they are often viewed with scepticism by the people around them and sometimes even by their healthcare professionals who still think that it’s “all in their head.”

WHAT IS CHRONIC PAIN?

Pain is the body’s way of telling the brain that something is wrong. Pain that remains once the original cause – such as an accident, disease, or surgery – has disappeared is not a signal related to any actual danger. In fact, at that point, it’s no longer a symptom but rather a disease. Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts longer than three to six months, or beyond what is considered the standard recovery time. Types of chronic pain include migraines, back pain, sports and joint injuries, fibromyalgia, and complex regional pain syndrome occurring after injury or surgery.

OUR APPROACH TO CHRONIC PAIN MANAGEMENT

The primary goals of successful pain management are to decrease the pain, and more importantly, to help you achieve a better quality of life. We work with patients and their family physicians to develop an individualised and comprehensive treatment plan that will produce optimal results. This plan may include nerve blocks, trigger point injections, pain medication, sleep therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy. As the treatment progresses and the pain decreases, some patients may be able to reduce or stop pain medications altogether

TREATMENTS PROVIDED

At our clinic, we are determined to give you the treatment that will work the best for you. It’s important to us that you have the strength and energy to enjoy every single moment spent with your friends and family, and that you can return to your daily activities.

1. TRIGGER POINTS

Trigger points are muscle knots that form as a result of poor posture, stress, repetitive motion, accidents, etc. The trigger point injections help relieve pain for a period ranging from several days to several weeks. OHIP covers these treatments.

2. BOTOX® FOR CHRONIC MIGRAINES

Botox for migraines begins with a migraine assessment.  The treatments can relieve headaches for three months on average. Most insurers cover Botox®, but not the cost of the injection.

Note: Nerve blocks, Nerve ablation and Epidural Steroid Injection are not currently available at our clinic.

OTHER TREATMENT OPTIONS

We are a full-service, collaborative team of medical and rehabilitative professionals (one-stop-shop). Under one roof, our patients can receive an optimized treatment. Our team of professionals comprises physicians of chronic pain, sports medicine, and regenerative medicine. We also work with specialized nurses, physiotherapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, osteopaths, and acupuncturists.

Muscle, Bone, & Joint Care

Complimentary to our chronic pain clinic, we also have a physical rehabilitation clinic. Pain is a complex phenomenon that can have repercussions on body mechanics. To prevent and treat the harmful effects of pain on joints and muscles, we offer our patients active rehabilitation treatments in the area of sports and joint medicine. We provide active rehabilitation protocols combining massage therapy, physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy, and acupuncture.

Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative medicine specializes in renewing tissue and organs of the human body. The goal of regenerative medicine treatments is to stimulate the body’s healing process and to restore proper function to the damaged area. At Inovo Medical, we are proud to take part in the development of cutting-edge treatments and are very enthusiastic about bringing them to the public. Regenerative medicine now enables us to treat many medical conditions rapidly and in a lasting manner.
